my reflections on the National Day Rally
yesterday... singaporeans tuned in on various local channels to hear the all time highlight of the year.i have to admit.. i have never bothered to listen to the national day rally;all the while i thought it was some detailed, 'for adults' only and its on the serious setting.yesterday was the turning point of it.i think youngsters should tune in and realise that they too, play a part to make singapore a better place to live in.personally before i went overseas, i din realise how much Singapore is far more efficient compared to other countries.we are bloody spoilt! we got shelters all the way to the bustop or the interchange to the mrt or whatever you call it. basically.. we had shelters almost everywhere to 'shelter' us from the sun and rain and what other natural catastrophes, or what you call it....when i was away, a 3 hour train ride is considerably short journeyas for us singaporeans, 1 hour is fucking far! and the cab is the next best solution.their train ride is EUR$1.40 (SGD$3.00) per ride;in Singapore, we complain that rides like costing you almost 2 bucks is dreadful...we have cab drivers who DARE NOT be rude to you hence they wil be warned out there... the cabbies simply tell you to fucking get lost before he kills you...what more do we want?the only thing that we need to implement is ourselves.like what the minister mentioned...(if none of you were watching, here is my version to what he said. i shall summarised for u)1) we have to change our mindset 2) we have to work harder3) be proud of your job - every job is respectable4) respect one another5) everyone has to complete their educationnow let me say something as im a malay-muslim... the prime minister has said that the malay community has improved tremendously esp in the drug dept. over the past 10 years... statistics have shown that 3000 drug addicts were placed in a rehab. now, in 2005... only 40 drug addicts were enrolled into rehab! thats a drastic change!and im proud to hear that! we can do it.like what my fren once said: HIDUP MELAYU! *quote LEoaidiL.another thing, on the education system, there has been improvements as well.there has been many graduates and many have completed their secondary levels.the amt of drop outs has gone down.one more room for improvement is the divorce rates..many marry young and divorced at such a young age. that needs to be changed.I can go on and on... outmostly.. we have to prove to the other races that we are not what they think we are.already in malaysia, the malay community are labeled as 'lazy' no action talk only ppl... we have to change their mindsets too.in order to do that. we have to change OURS.if we malays are good in service industry, we shud excel in the things we are good inturning out adversities into success means a lot.my frens, who are mostly malays, they're not the typical type.we got education and all...and i think we can reach out to the other ppl who are not as lucky as we all arewell, we have to look into details one step at a time.now the teenage pregnancy the teen gang, the teen running away from homeall these shud be taken into consideration.i feel that the community shud make use of our GOTONG ROYONG specialty...thus applying it to our daily lives.
